Glennwanis Hotel
Today, 82 years after its establishment, the Glennwanis Hotel is still on the corner of Barnard and Tillman. After three quarters of a century, the building is structurally sound but needs an extensive remodel inside. Plans are underway and donations are being accepted for this historical project. 2014 Events


January

January 11, 2014 – Glennville Committee for Social Change will host their Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Banquet – Cassandra  Murphy Harlequin of Perry, GA will serve as the speaker at the banquet. The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Glennville Garden Club Center.

January 17th & 18th, 2014 – Tattnall County Productions presents “Musical Memories…Thank You”. Shows are scheduled for Friday, January 17th at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday, January 18th at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Glennville City Auditorium on Tillman Street, Sonny Dixon of WTOC will serve as emcee. NOTE:  This event is held annually on the 3rd weekend in January.

January 18, 2014 – Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade hosted by Glennville Committee for Social Change – The 24th Annual Parade and Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.  Mr. DeWitt Porter, Sr. will serve as The Grand Marshall for the parade and guest speaker for the ceremony. This year’s theme is “Each One Serve One”.

February 8, 2014 – Crown Promotions presents the 13th Annual Southern Gospel Music Sing The sing will take place at the Glennville City Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Featured Groups will be: “The Bland Family”, “The End Time Quartet, “The Driven Quartet” and “The New Life Quartet”. February 15, 2014 - People Empowerment Association (P.E.A.) will host its 4th Annual “Sweethearts Night Out” – This year’s theme is “A Night to Remember”. The event will take place at the Officers’ Club in Ft. Stewart.  Ticket prices are $25 each and include dinner. The event will begin at 7 p.m. For more information, call Whaketa Hargrove at 654-9236. People Empowerment Association is a non-profit organization.  All proceeds are for the Glennville Community Youth Center Project.

April 19, 2014 – Glennville Chamber of Commerce hosts the “Easter Eggstravaganza” – The “Easter Eggstravaganza” will be held at the Glennville Recreation Department located on Veterans Drive, beginning at 9 a.m.

April 12, 2014 – Miss Georgia Sweet Onion Pageant
The 38th Annual Miss Georgia Sweet Onion Pageant will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Glennville City Auditorium. Young ladies, ages 16 – 22, are eligible to compete. Applicants must be residents of the Georgia Department of Agriculture designated Vidalia Sweet Onion growing counties – Tattnall, Toombs, Evans, Telfair, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Bulloch, Emanuel, Treutlen, Wheeler, Appling, Candler, and Montgomery and portions of Laurens, Long, Screven, Wayne, Jenkins, and Pierce counties. Local extension offices should be able to provide this information. The pageant includes competition in evening gown, stage presentation, and interview. No talent or swimsuit is required. The queen will receive approximately $1500 in cash awards and other prizes. The runners-up will also receive cash awards. The pageant is under the direction of Tiffany Kicklighter of Glennville. May 3, 2014 – Tattnall Productions presents “Sweet Sound of Country” – The show will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Glennville City Auditorium and sponsored by the Glennville Sweet Onion Festival Committee.

May 8, 2014 – The  Welcome Center’s “Annual Cake Raffle” Fundraiser – This fundraiser will once again be our Cake Raffle, which has grown to over 100 cakes raffled off that day for a ticket donation of $3 each or two for $5. This fundraiser is held annually on the Thursday prior to The Glennville Sweet Onion Festival. If you would like to donate a cake or purchase tickets, please contact City Hall at 912-654-2461. The drawing will take place on May 08, 2014 at the Glennville Welcome Center, located at 136 S. Veterans Boulevard.

May 10, 2014 Crown Promotions Sing – 9th Annual "Sweet Onion" Homecoming Sing featuring 30 Local artists on stage with live music provided by Sammy Glass Family from Decatur, TN.  A 2-1/2 hour event with singing and comedy containing a great message begins at 7:00 p.m. (after the Onion Festival) at the Glennville City Auditorium! A $5.00 donation at the door and a love offering will be taken.

May 10, 2014 – The Glennville Sweet Onion Festival, Parade & Run
This festival features arts, crafts, entertainment, and a wide range of foods celebrating the harvest of the Vidalia Sweet Onion and includes an “Onion Run” and parade. November 7, 2014 – “Christmas Open House “ – First Friday in November - “Christmas Open House” at local retailers.
