GLENNWANIS HOTEL
Today, 82 years after its establishment, the Glennwanis Hotel is still on the corner of Barnard and Tillman.  After three quarters of a century, the building is structurally sound but needs an extensive remodel inside.  Plans are underway and donations are being accepted for this historical project. Donations may be made to the City of Glennville, Attn:  Glennwanis Hotel, 134 Veterans Boulevard, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

2011 Events


January

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade is held in Glennville each year on the Saturday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Tattnall Productions is held the third weekend in January at the Glennville City Auditorium on the campus of the Southeastern Technical College. FEbruary

Crown Promotions present the 8th Annual Southern Gospel Music Sing – February 18, 2011 - The Sing will take place at the Glennville City Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.  Featured Groups will be:  “Driven Quartet” from Charlotte, NC, “The Sammy Glass Family” from Decatur, TN, “Gloryland Quartet “ from Brunswick, GA, and “The Bland Family” from Glennville, GA”.  There will be a $5 Donation at the door. Fashion Show – February 19, 2011 - Show will take place at the Glennville City Auditorium and begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be singing, entertainment and door prizes. $5 for advanced tickets, $7 at the door. Scrabble Fun Night  -  February 24, 2011 - This fundraiser for the Glennwanis Hotel will be held at the Technology Building located on the Southeastern Technical College’s campus (behind Glennville City Auditorium).  $10 for Adults (18 & up)/$5 for Juniors (5th grade – 12th grade).  Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. Refreshments are available for sale. A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline - March 18, 2011 – The live musical performance begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Glennville City Auditorium. Tickets are $20/Adult and $10/Youth Center and Orchestra Seats are available for $25/ticket. General Admission Tickets can be purchased at The Glennville Sentinel. Bluegrass Concert to benefit the Historic Glennwanis Hotel  - March 26, 2011 - Presented by the Friends of Glennwanis, this concert will feature Larry Gillis and His Hard Driving Bluegrass Band.  This event will be held at the Glennville City Auditorium at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $15 in advance/$20 at the door.  Call 912-237-0781, begin of the skype highlighting  912-237-0781; end of the skype highlighting, 654-2515, 654-0441, or 654-1309 for advance tickets.  Tickets may also be purchased at The Glennville Welcome Center and at Glennville City Hall.


APRIL

Miss Georgia Sweet Onion Pageant - April 2, 2011 – 35th Annual Miss Georgia Sweet Onion Pageant at 7:30 p.m. in the Glennville City Auditorium. Young ladies ages 16-22 are eligible to compete. Applicants must be residents of the Georgia Department of Agriculture designated Vidalia Sweet Onion growing counties – Tattnall, Toombs, Evans, Telfair, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Bulloch, Emanuel, Treutlen, Wheeler, Appling, Candler, and Montgomery – and portions of Laurens, Long, Screven, Wayne, Jenkins, and Pierce counties. Local extension offices should be able to provide this information. The pageant includes competition in evening gown, stage presentation, and interview. No talent or swimsuit is required. The queen will receive approximately $1500 in cash awards and other prizes. The runners-up will also receive cash awards. The pageant is under the direction of Tiffany Kicklighter of Glennville. Applications are available at Kicklighter Realty, Inc. and the Glennville Sentinel office. The pageant is sponsored by the Glennville Sweet Onion Festival Committee. “Friends Forever” – April 30, 2011 - Two-hour musical with pre-show at the Glennville City Auditorium at 2:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m. A senior class is given an assignment on “What is a Friend”. Everyone knows what a friend is, or so they think. A musical filled with humor, laughter, sincerity and is Christ-centered. There will be a $5 Donation at the door and a love offering will be taken. Jennifer’s School of Dance & Cheernastics 18th Annual Spring Recital – May 7, 2011 - Event is to be held at Glennville City Auditorium. This year’s theme is “Live to Dance, Live to Cheer, Celebrating 18 Dazzling Years!” Cheernastic Recital is at 10:00 a.m. featuring the Southern All-Stars at the Glennville Middle School Gym. The Welcome Center’s Annual Fundraiser will once again be our Cake Raffle, which has grown to over 100 cakes raffled off that day for a ticket donation of $3 each or two for $5. The drawing will take place on May 12, 2011 at the Glennville Welcome Center, located at 136 S. Veterans Boulevard.

The Glennville Sweet Onion Festival features arts, crafts, entertainment, and a wide range of foods celebrating the harvest of the Vidalia Sweet Onion. This festival is held on the second Saturday in May (May 14, 2011) at the State Farmers Market in Glennville with the parade starting at 10 a.m. that morning. 7th Annual Sweet Onion Homecoming Sing – May 14, 2011 - This sing will take place at the Glennville City Auditorium and will feature 30 local artists on stage with live music provided by Sammy Glass Family from Decatur, TN. This is a two and one-half hour event filled with singing, comedy and a great message. There will be a $5 donation at the door and a love offering will be taken. Christmas Open House - First Friday in November (November 4, 2011) - Christmas Open House retailers and from 5pm to 8pm the Glennville Chamber of Commerce sponsored pancake and sausage supper held at the Glennville Middle School Cafeteria. For information call Pam Waters at 912-654-2515.
